I’ve been living in Idaho for over a decade. I’ve lived in other places, too, but the Gem State has always felt like home. That said, I’m constantly surprised when people find out that Idaho is a part of the Pacific Northwest (PNW). Sure, it’s not Oregon or Washington…but we do share some commonalities with those states (and even Iceland!). So read on as I explain why you should definitely visit Idaho if you’re looking for some unique locations for your elopement (or just want to explore some place new).

PNW Idaho landscape

Idaho is part of the Pacific Northwest!

Idaho is so much more than potatoes! The state has all of the hallmarks of being apart of the PNW! It has mountains (and even some volcanoes), forests full of trees, rivers flowing through its valleys and plains…but what really sets it apart from the rest is its weather. It gets cold enough in Idaho during winter months that people need sweaters and jackets. And they also get hot enough during summer months that people want shorts or bathing suits instead! Idaho has a full range of seasons making it impossible not to think about how much better it is compared to it’s more coastal counterparts. You really can’t beat fall in Idaho.

The variety in landscapes are incredible

Idaho is home to one of the highest mountain ranges in the continental US, which means it has a variety of landscapes. Whether you’re into mountains or waterfalls, Idaho has what you’re looking for.

You can also find national parks like Craters of the Moon National Park and Sawtooth National Recreation Area here. Or you can find forests like Salmon River Forest Reserve or Nez Perce National Forest if those are more your speed! Idaho is also home to unique locations like hot springs and ghost towns.

Idaho is a great place to visit as well. It’s home to many different cities, including Boise and Pocatello. These cities have plenty of things to do and places to see! You can visit the Idaho State Capitol Building in Boise, which was built in 1920.

Idaho Has The best sunsets in the world

Did you know that Idaho is famous for its sunsets?

Idaho has some of the most romantic sunsets in the PNW let alone the world, and if you haven’t seen one yet, I urge you to go see one as soon as possible. They are absolutely stunning! The sky turns into a beautiful array of colors that look like someone painted them on canvas and then hung it up in front of your eyes so that everyone can enjoy them together with their loved ones.

The best part about watching an Idaho sunset is that there are so many great places where this can happen–whether it be from atop a mountain, overlooking a lake or riverbank, or even just sitting in your car while driving through our beautiful state.

Idaho Is A Hidden Gem

Idaho is a hidden gem that deserves more attention from photographers and couples looking for unique locations for their elopement!

The great state of Idaho is an amazing place to elope, especially if you are looking for a unique location in the PNW.

The state has many gorgeous spots for your wedding portraits and even to honeymoon.

It’s also relatively affordable when you compare it to other states in the Pacific Northwest. Idaho has some of the most beautiful scenery in America, and because it’s been a hidden secret for so long you won’t have to worry about a lot of crowds.

The state has hundreds of lakes and rivers for you to explore with your new spouse. The mountains are also a great place to hike in, especially if you want some fresh air and exercise before the wedding reception.

Did You Know That Idaho Is apart of the PNW?!

Let's do this thing

I literally have no words. Natalie is so amazing and talented, and not to mention how kind she is. She has outdone herself! My pregnancy has actually been pretty hard, so it actually brings me to tears to have such beautiful photos to remember it with. I am so so grateful for these beautiful keepsakes.

Natalie and her husband are amazing! My hubby does not enjoy taking photos. Natalie was able to make us feel at ease and have fun with our session. She went above and beyond! I was expecting the typical sit here, pose this way, smile, click. NOPE! She asked us intimate questions about our lives. She played music that we love. She created an atmosphere and a mood that made our anniversary photos an experience. We are so thankful for the memories she helped us to create. Also her unique artistry in how she photographed us. I’m in love with the results. Thank you Natalie and Nate 💖
