Planning your Boise State graduation photos is one of those things that feels simple until suddenly it isn’t.
You blink, and somehow the thing you’ve been working toward for years is here.
The papers are turned in. The exams are finished. The degree you’ve been chasing is finally within reach.
And if you’re anything like most of the grads I photograph, you’re probably feeling a weird mix of emotions.
Excited.
Proud.
Relieved.
Maybe a little terrified about what comes next.
Honestly, that’s part of what makes graduation so special.
It’s not just about finishing school. It’s about standing at the edge of one chapter while the next one is quietly waiting for you. It’s a celebration of everything it took to get here and a reminder that you’re allowed to be proud of yourself along the way.
That’s why I love graduation photos so much.
They’re not really about the diploma.
They’re about becoming.
And if you’re looking for Boise State graduation photos that feel like you—not stiff, awkward, or overly posed—you’ve come to the right place.

Graduation photos get treated like a checklist item sometimes.
Cap.
Gown.
A few pictures.
Done.
But I think they’re so much more than that.
Because this moment isn’t really about graduation.
It’s about everything that happened before it.
The late nights.
The classes you loved.
The classes you absolutely did not love.
The friendships.
The growth.
The moments when you questioned whether you’d make it through.
And then somehow, here you are.
Graduating.
That’s worth celebrating.
Not because a degree determines your value, but because you worked hard for it. You showed up for yourself. You kept going when things were difficult.
You deserve to have that documented.
Years from now, I don’t think you’ll look back at these photos and think about assignments or exams.
I think you’ll remember who you were.
What you dreamed about.
And how exciting the future felt.

One of my favorite things about Boise State graduation photos is how many incredible locations you have to choose from.
Whether you want something classic, urban, outdoorsy, or a little adventurous, Boise has options.
If you’re graduating from Boise State, we have to talk about the iconic sign.
It’s one of the most recognizable spots on campus and immediately tells the story of where this chapter happened.
It’s classic for a reason.
There are so many beautiful corners of campus that often get overlooked.
The walkways, brick buildings, trees, and architecture all help tell the story of your college experience.
Plus, chances are you’ve spent years walking these paths already.
That makes them meaningful.
If you’re looking for something a little more elevated and iconic, the Boise Depot is always a favorite.
The architecture is beautiful, the views are incredible, and the surrounding gardens photograph beautifully throughout the year.
If you love nature but still want to stay close to Boise, the Greenbelt offers trees, river views, and beautiful natural light.
It’s relaxed, versatile, and works well with almost any outfit.
For grads who want something a little more modern, downtown Boise brings so much personality.
Brick walls.
Neon signs.
Coffee shops.
Historic buildings.
Interesting textures.
The city itself becomes part of the story.
If your happy place is outside, the foothills are hard to beat.
Wide-open views, beautiful sunsets, and that unmistakable Idaho landscape make for stunning graduation photos.

This is probably the question I get asked most often.
And honestly?
The answer is simpler than you think.
Wear something that feels like you.
Not Pinterest.
Not Instagram.
Not what you think you’re supposed to wear.
You.
That might mean a flowy dress.
A suit.
Jeans and boots.
Something colorful.
Something classic.
Whatever feels authentic to who you are.
That said, I usually recommend bringing two outfits if possible.
One that feels more dressed up.
And one that feels more casual.
This gives you variety and helps tell a fuller story.

Every single year someone asks me:
“Do I really need to bring my cap and gown?”
And every single year my answer is yes.
Always.
Even if you don’t wear it for the entire session.
Even if we only use it for ten minutes.
Bring it.
Because ten years from now, those are often the photos people treasure most.
The champagne bottle might feel trendy right now.
The outfit might go out of style someday.
But the cap and gown instantly capture the moment.
They tell the story.
And trust me, future you will be glad you have them.

Short answer?
If it feels meaningful, bring it.
Some fun ideas include:
The goal isn’t to bring props just to bring props.
The goal is to bring things that help tell your story.
Because the best graduation photos aren’t generic.
They’re personal.

Generally, I recommend scheduling your Boise State graduation photos a few weeks before graduation.
This gives you plenty of time to receive your gallery and use the images for announcements, social media, or gifts if you’d like.
Spring and fall are usually the busiest graduation seasons, so booking early is always a good idea.
As for time of day?
Golden hour is still my favorite.
The light gets softer, everything glows, and Boise looks extra magical.
Let’s talk about the thing almost everyone worries about.
Posing.
The good news?
You don’t need to know how to pose.
Seriously.
One of the most common things people tell me before their session is:
“I’m awkward in photos.”
And honestly, that’s what almost everyone says.
My job isn’t to expect you to magically know what to do.
My job is to guide you.
I’ll give prompts.
I’ll help with movement.
I’ll tell you where to put your hands.
We’ll talk.
We’ll laugh.
And before you know it, you’ll stop thinking about the camera altogether.
The best photos happen when you’re focused on being present, not perfect.

You don’t have to choose one or the other.
Some grads want a session entirely focused on themselves.
Others want to celebrate with roommates, best friends, or the people who survived the same classes right alongside them.
Both are wonderful.
And honestly, group photos can be incredibly meaningful.
Because graduation isn’t just about what you accomplished.
It’s also about the people who helped you get there.
Need inspiration?
Here are a few of my favorite ideas:
There are no rules.
Your photos don’t have to look like anyone else’s.
In fact, I think they’re better when they don’t.

Ideally, several weeks before graduation, especially during busy spring and fall seasons.
Wear something that feels authentic to you and bring your cap and gown.
Absolutely, if they feel meaningful. The best props help tell your story.
You’re normal. Almost everyone feels that way at first. I’ll guide you through the entire session.
Of course. Graduation is worth celebrating with the people who matter most.

Hi, I’m Natalie.
If you’ve made it this far, I’m guessing you care about more than just checking graduation photos off a to-do list.
You want photos that actually feel like you.
Photos that capture not just what you’ve accomplished, but who you’ve become.
That’s my favorite kind of session.
I love documenting people in the middle of big transitions. Graduation is such a strange and beautiful season of life because you’re standing between what was and what comes next.
There’s excitement.
There’s uncertainty.
There’s possibility.
And honestly, that’s where some of the most meaningful photographs happen.
My goal isn’t to make you look like a model.
My goal is to create photos that feel honest, joyful, and unmistakably yours.
So whether you’re celebrating with champagne, bringing your dog, exploring downtown Boise, or wandering through the foothills at sunset, I’d love to help you document this chapter before it becomes a memory.
You worked hard for this.
You deserve to celebrate it.

Let's do this thing
I literally have no words. Natalie is so amazing and talented, and not to mention how kind she is. She has outdone herself! My pregnancy has actually been pretty hard, so it actually brings me to tears to have such beautiful photos to remember it with. I am so so grateful for these beautiful keepsakes.

Natalie and her husband are amazing! My hubby does not enjoy taking photos. Natalie was able to make us feel at ease and have fun with our session. She went above and beyond! I was expecting the typical sit here, pose this way, smile, click. NOPE! She asked us intimate questions about our lives. She played music that we love. She created an atmosphere and a mood that made our anniversary photos an experience. We are so thankful for the memories she helped us to create. Also her unique artistry in how she photographed us. I’m in love with the results. Thank you Natalie and Nate 💖
