Let’s be real—your dog is basically your furry child, so why wouldn’t they be part of your engagement photos? If they’ve been there through the late-night snack runs, the Sunday couch snuggles, and that one time they totally judged you for crying over a rom-com, they 100% deserve a starring role in your photoshoot.

Including your pup in your engagement session isn’t just cute—it makes for some of the most fun, candid, and personality-filled photos. So if you’re looking for engagement photo ideas with dogs, I’ve got you covered. Keep reading for tips, ideas, and everything you need to know to make your session pawsitively perfect. (Yeah, I went there.)

Look, your dog is already part of the family, and let’s be honest, they probably get more kisses than your fiancé some days. Including them in your engagement photos is a no-brainer.

Pros:

✅ Instant joy and playfulness in your photos.
✅ Captures the reality of your little family.
✅ Dogs = the best icebreakers if you’re camera-shy.

Cons:

❌ They might steal the spotlight. (Are you okay with that? Thought so.)
❌ They don’t always take direction well—so get ready for some bloopers.
❌ If your dog is a runner, you might get some unexpected cardio.

Because a good boy (or girl) deserves a good plan.

🐾 Exercise them beforehand – A pre-shoot zoomies session will help them chill out.
🐾 Bring treats + a favorite toy – Bribery works. Use it.
🐾 Have a backup plan – If they get overwhelmed, we’ll get some solo shots of you two while they take a break.

For the couple that spends their weekends hiking, camping, or just generally smelling like the woods. Let’s hit the trails, find a killer view, and capture some moments that scream “this is our happy place.”

Keep it cozy with an at-home session. Snuggle up on the couch, make pancakes, or let your dog photobomb you while you attempt a romantic moment. Bonus: no leashes required.

Tennis balls, open fields, and golden-hour magic? Yes, please. This is a great option for high-energy pups who just want to go, go, go!

For the urban couples, let’s hit downtown. Think cute coffee shop moments, strolling hand-in-hand, and your pup being the center of attention (as they should be).

If your dog is a water-loving lunatic, let’s lean into it. Splashing in the waves? Running in the sand? Yes and yes.

✔ Leash (bonus points for a cute one)
✔ Treats (yes, I will also accept treats)
✔ Water + bowl (hydration is key)
✔ Lint roller (dog hair is forever)
✔ A sense of humor (because, well, dogs)

I get it—your dog isn’t just a pet. They’re your bestie, your hiking buddy, your emotional support animal when wedding planning gets a little too real. And I want to make sure your engagement session reflects you—fur, chaos, and all.

As someone who fully supports dog interruptions, mid-shoot zoomies, and bribing pups for that one perfect shot, I’ll make sure we get the photos you’ve been dreaming of—without stressing your dog (or you) out.

Engagement Photo Ideas with Dogs 🐶💍

Let's do this thing

I literally have no words. Natalie is so amazing and talented, and not to mention how kind she is. She has outdone herself! My pregnancy has actually been pretty hard, so it actually brings me to tears to have such beautiful photos to remember it with. I am so so grateful for these beautiful keepsakes.

Natalie and her husband are amazing! My hubby does not enjoy taking photos. Natalie was able to make us feel at ease and have fun with our session. She went above and beyond! I was expecting the typical sit here, pose this way, smile, click. NOPE! She asked us intimate questions about our lives. She played music that we love. She created an atmosphere and a mood that made our anniversary photos an experience. We are so thankful for the memories she helped us to create. Also her unique artistry in how she photographed us. I’m in love with the results. Thank you Natalie and Nate 💖
