Weddings don’t have to be all bling and fancy (unless that’s your jam, no judgment). If you’re a laid-back couple dreaming of saying “I do” with sand between your toes and the ocean as your backdrop, then simple beach wedding ideas are exactly what you need. No stress, no crazy Pinterest boards with thousand-dollar ideas, just a relaxed, personal ceremony that lets you focus on the important stuff—like enjoying the hell out of the day and celebrating love.

But first, let’s get the ball rolling with some super helpful tips for keeping your beach wedding simple, stylish, and totally unforgettable. Grab your sunscreen and let’s go!

Simple doesn’t mean boring. A simple beach wedding is the best way to focus on what matters: your love, your vows, and the fact that the beach is already giving you the best damn decor you could ask for. It’s just you two (and maybe a few people who you actually want there), the waves crashing, and a breeze that feels like nature is giving you a giant high five.

No pressure. No fancy dress codes. You get to be yourselves. And that’s what I want to help you do—create a day that feels real, raw, and so you.

So, you’re sold on the idea of a beach wedding, but where to actually host this little slice of paradise? Good news: there are tons of beaches out there, and it doesn’t matter if you want a private cove, a big public shoreline, or an off-the-beaten-path location. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Permits: Some beaches might need a permit for a wedding, so be sure to check ahead! For example, here’s a link to info on beach wedding permits in certain areas.
  • Accessibility: Is your dream location a rugged spot only accessible by a kayak? Cool. But if you’re going for a more relaxed vibe, maybe opt for a beach that’s easy to get to (your guests will thank you).
  • Tides and weather: Seriously, you don’t want to be fighting the waves or getting rained out. Keep an eye on weather patterns (or talk to a local expert if you’re traveling) and pick a time when the tides will cooperate.

Alright, we’re all about simple here—but simple doesn’t mean basic. If you want to keep your wedding low-key but still swoon-worthy, here are some ways to elevate your day:

  • Dress Code: You don’t need a long train or 300 guests to feel like royalty. Go with something that lets you move—think flowy dresses and relaxed, comfortable vibes.
  • Decor: The beach is your decor. The ocean waves and salty air do all the heavy lifting for you. Just add a few touches like a simple arch, some local flowers, or a cool ceremony rug.
  • Ceremony: This is where we get personal. Write your own vows or let your officiant (hello, Nate) do something a little less traditional. Keep it short, sweet, and meaningful.
  • Music: Don’t worry about hiring a full band. A portable speaker and a playlist that makes your heart skip a beat will do the trick. Trust me—your guests will love it.

There are a few things you don’t want to miss when planning a simple beach wedding:

  • Sun Protection: Unless you’re into crispy skin, make sure you have sunscreen, hats, and maybe even a parasol.
  • Comfortable Footwear: Sand is pretty, but it’s also a thing. Have shoes you can easily slip off (or keep it barefoot).
  • Snacks and Hydration: Don’t forget to hydrate. Sand + sun + no snacks = grumpy guests. A few light bites or beachy cocktails will keep the good vibes flowing.
  • Towels and Blankets: Just in case you want to sit back and enjoy the waves post-ceremony, bring along some cozy towels or blankets.

Here’s where I come in. I want you to have an experience that will make you feel like you’re stepping into a memory every time you look at them. I don’t do stiff, boring poses—no, no, no. My goal is to make you feel comfortable, to let your personalities shine through, and to capture the real, raw moments that make your love story unique.

Whether it’s the look in your eyes as you say your vows or the giggle you share while running away from a surprise wave, I’m there to get all those moments that make your day special. I’m not here for “perfect” poses; I’m here for real moments, which is why I love working with couples who want to keep things chill and true to their vibes.

  • Nontraditional Officiants: Who says your officiant has to be all formal? Nate is a certified officiant (with a sprinkle of Dude-ist priest vibes) and can craft a ceremony that’s personal, heartfelt, and not too stuffy.
  • Beach Picnics and Bonfires: Want something after the ceremony? A beach picnic or bonfire is a relaxed way to keep the party going without the usual wedding hullabaloo.
  • Elopement Option: If you want to skip the big crowd but still have your day documented, an elopement on the beach could be a fantastic way to go.

Simple Beach Wedding Ideas You’ll Love

Let's do this thing

I literally have no words. Natalie is so amazing and talented, and not to mention how kind she is. She has outdone herself! My pregnancy has actually been pretty hard, so it actually brings me to tears to have such beautiful photos to remember it with. I am so so grateful for these beautiful keepsakes.

Natalie and her husband are amazing! My hubby does not enjoy taking photos. Natalie was able to make us feel at ease and have fun with our session. She went above and beyond! I was expecting the typical sit here, pose this way, smile, click. NOPE! She asked us intimate questions about our lives. She played music that we love. She created an atmosphere and a mood that made our anniversary photos an experience. We are so thankful for the memories she helped us to create. Also her unique artistry in how she photographed us. I’m in love with the results. Thank you Natalie and Nate 💖
